Who you select to do your Senior portraits is an important decision. You need to make sure you consider many things when selecting a photographer who is a good fit for you.
Always check the photographers work to see if you like their style.
My style is not traditional and may even seem unconventional.
Seniors that book their sessions with me do so for the stylish and contemporary portraits I create. I use fun locations and posing to achieve this look.
You may notice some things when looking at my work that are different from other photographers.
Tight Crops- I frequently take images that focus on the eyes. In these images the face will fill the frame, sometimes the head will be cut off…I mean to do that.
Not-So-Smiley- You will not hear me say smile and say cheese, I love to capture the pensive and thoughtful look just as I do a fabulous smile.
Let's be Negative- Many of my images have what is called negative space. This is when the subject of the photograph is off to one side and the rest of the image is empty. I do this for artistic reasons and love the feel it gives to the right image.
Off Center- To create visual impact, I frequently move my subjects off center. I know we all are trained to put things in the center of the photograh, this results in the most boring placement of your subject. The most boring placement for your subject is smack dab in the middle. I prefer to follow something called the rule of thirds (all good photographers do).
Confused? Don’t be. It’ a fancy way to say -- your senior does not need to be in the middle of the image for it to be a fabulous portrait!!
Light in the Eyes- Great portraits require great light and the by product of great light is catch lights, or a reflection of light in the eyes. I am always moving around my subjects trying to get that prefect light!
